Gristmill

When I saw this window in the corner of the old unused gristmill at Landmark Inn,  Castroville, Texas, my imagination wouldn’t keep still.  I visualized a Forman’s desk stacked with work orders.  His chair pulled back from the desk turned toward the window to catch the breeze drifting down the hill.  Wagons freshly loaded with bags of flour and cornmeal pull up to the window.  The Foreman reaches out to receive payment from the drivers, hands the driver the receipt, and bids them, “Good day, come again.”   He turns, puts the money in the cash box, marks the work order complete and paid in full.  He raises his face to the breeze as he pushes one more completed order down on the spike he keeps on his desk.
